Hello all!
As you may have heard, Everett has left the building after declaring Minimalism dead. This may leave some wondering if he is correct. In order to reach the widest audience possible with the answer to this question I placed it on Associated Content by Yahoo. The link is below:

No he did not kill minimalism. It is still healthy, always changing and will move forward.

Hi Annie, and thanks for the mention in your article, ‘way sweet
Actually I found myself laughing over the whole Ev Bogue (Bogus?) thing. The guy is a first-rate marketer. He’s got nothing to lose (house, family, etc.) and he plays Bad Boy with perfect timing. Now he’s got the whole blogosphere talking about him and even if just a small portion of his fans follow him to that $20 per month site, he’s got a nice living.
Nah, minimalism isn’t dead–we’re still here, aren’t we? ;D

No, his understanding of minimalism was just limited to to tools used to access it. It’s easy to confuse the map with the territory.
I’m sorry that his experience of it was so shallow, but it looks like he helped a lot of people and now he has the chance to experience more.

I think he has a lot of talent Exiting. I honestly believe that if he had approached it with a bit more practicality he would still be here, but he got frustrated with the self-deprivation and the fact that there was only so many rants inside of him.
I can understand his need to generate additional income and his attempt to use this to his financial advantage. Living in apartments with as little as he does, his expenses probably triple what I can live on by owning my own home so when his popularity began to wane he will need to supplement it and fast, especially since instead of saving he spent his money on $200 pairs of jeans and lots of plane tickets. I’m NOT saying he was wrong in his choices but without a cushion there he may be getting rather financially lean.
Also he probably did get bored. He can make a few dollars now as a Yogi, still promote living with less in relation with that and make a decent income. I wish him the absolute best in his next endeavor.
I will always owe Everett a debt that I cannot repay; we chatted via email while I was interviewing him and he was the one who finally made me realize that I had really succeeded in my goal of being a stay at home mom earning an online income–I had been so focused on my writing and having a variety of income sources that I missed the forest for the trees in my own life and it took a simple comment from Everett to realize that I wasn’t just “trying” to make a living online–I was doing it. He has no idea how much that simple comment meant to me.

You are very welcome Meg!
What is funny about the timing of his exit was that I had moved on after learning everything he had to teach. It had bothered me but I had finally unsubscribed and unfollowed in order to free the time up in my life for new people to help me grow. I had written about the change in myself but couldn’t bring myself to post it–then this happens.
He is right, however. His time is over and it is a fun thing to know you went out with a bang, you know?

Minimalism isn’t going anywhere, just Bogue. I unsubscribed from him months ago when he began opening every post in such a condescending manner. As someone else said, he’s a marketer. He was in it for the money and because he thought it was cool. Minimalism was around long before Bogue and will be here long after.
