Minimalism in Paris

DSCN6380

I stumbled upon this article of a lady discussing her experience as an exchange student in Paris, France.

I am fascinated by the fact that the lady of the house only had 10 items of clothing in her wardrobe and all were of high quality. They wore their best clothes daily, whereas in this country we save them up and wear our worst.

One of my personal goals is to improve my wardrobe. I want to wear the nice stuff and toss the trash. Do you have a similar goal?

I guess its subjective, as to whats “best”. My best sweater I bought for a dollar at a thriftstore. It is 100% wool and sooo thick and warm. Vegans, would think Im hitler, for using animal fiber, when I am actually more like ghenghis khan ,hehe,. Women would also think its super ugly ,well because it is!

I found Jennifer’s blog, The Daily Connosieur, about a year ago when I did a websearch on minimalisn. I love her blog and her YouTube channel.

I do have a similar goal. I haven’t been buying new clothes lately but now I am ready. I keep reading that it is important to look nice because the visual is the first thing people see so I am working on this too! Nothing fancy, I just want to feel good in what I wear. I am getting ready to clean out my closet so now is a good time to decide what to keep, what to throw out, and what to buy new.

I’ve been reading her book and thinking about this topic as well. While the number of items in my closet is small already I think it’s time to rethink some of the items, especially the misshapen ones.

I have been slowly reducing the number of clothes in my closet over the past year. I want to ultimately have a reasonable wardrobe of well curated selections that I will actually wear. In the past I’ve always had the stuff I wear and all those, “what if I need this clothes” that sit there. Some of them I realized I didn’t even like.

That is exactly what I do, in fact this is one of the reasons I began to blog. ONe Saturday I felt so awful in what I was wearing, and I saw that despite having so many beautiful things, I had pulled on my scungiest…so am working on blitzing that.

    Great post, Francesca.

Wearing beautiful clothes is not so important to me most days since I live alone in the country with dogs and animals. But I like the idea of using rather than saving away the good things.

Annie, go to http://www.theviviennefiles.com and look at her “A Common Wardrobe” and her recent summer wardrobe. She puts lovely things together. Memorize, then head to the thrift store- after you look at your existing options at home! She really has a wonderful knack. A lot of the things she shows are expensive- but that’s not her point. Her point is classic basics that you can wear endless ways and love.
